How to Extend the Service Life of Wear Parts in Fully Automatic Pipe Welding Machines?

Mar 11, 2026

I. Welding Torch and Contact Nozzle: Reducing Friction and Overheating

1. Regular Inspection and Replacement

The contact nozzle must be replaced when the orifice diameter wears more than 10% of its original size (e.g., from 1.2mm to 1.32mm). Otherwise, it will lead to unstable arc and increased spatter.

Clean the spatter from the end of the contact nozzle after each shift to prevent accumulation that could obstruct wire feeding.

2. Optimize Wire Feeding

Ensure the wire extension is controlled within 10~15mm. Excessive extension can increase resistance heat and accelerate contact nozzle oxidation.

Adjust the wire feed roller clamping force to a moderate level: for solid core welding wire, aim for a slight indentation; for flux-cored welding wire, reduce the pressure by 20%~30%.

3. Use Matching Materials

When welding aluminum, use copper-plated or ceramic-coated contact nozzles for stronger anti-sticking properties; for welding stainless steel, it is recommended to use chromium-zirconium copper nozzles for superior high-temperature resistance.

II. Wire Feeding Rollers and Hose: Ensuring Smooth Wire Feeding

1. Proper Selection and Installation

The groove type of the wire feeding roller must match the diameter of the welding wire (e.g., 1.0~1.4mm groove for 1.2mm welding wire). Mismatch will accelerate wear.

The bending radius of the hose must not be less than 150mm to prevent internal structural deformation that would increase wire feeding resistance.

2. Regular Cleaning and Replacement

Purge the inside of the hose weekly with compressed air to remove impurities such as iron powder and plating shavings.

If the inner wall coating of the hose is found to be peeling off or the wires are misaligned, replace it immediately to prevent the welding wire from jamming.

III. Guide Rollers and Guide Rings: Maintaining Stable Operation

1. Regular Lubrication and Calibration

Check the guide roller bearings weekly to ensure they rotate freely. Add high-temperature grease to prevent jamming that could scratch the tube blank.

Use a laser rangefinder monthly to calibrate the parallelism of each roller axis, controlling the deviation within ±0.1mm.

2. Timely Replacement of Damaged Components

Cracks or chipped edges on the guide ring should be replaced immediately to prevent periodic indentations on the pipe surface, which could affect weld sealing.

IV. Tungsten Electrode (TIG Welding Applicable): Preventing Contamination and Burn-off

1. Proper Grinding and Installation

The tip of the tungsten electrode should be ground to a cone angle of 30°~60°, with a length 1.5~2 times the diameter to ensure a concentrated and stable arc.

During installation, the length extending beyond the nozzle should be controlled at 5~8mm. Excessive length can lead to oxidation, while insufficient length will affect the protective effect.

2. Ensuring Gas Protection

Use argon gas with a purity ≥99.99%, with a flow rate controlled at 10~15L/min. Avoid crosswind interference that could cause tungsten electrode oxidation.

Stop wire feeding 2~3 seconds before the end of welding and continue gas circulation to cool the tungsten electrode, preventing hot oxidation.

V. Cooling System: Prevent Scale and Leaks

1. Use Dedicated Coolant

Tap water or deionized water must not be used for direct cooling, as minerals in the water can easily cause calcification and blockage in the pipes.

Only use the manufacturer-recommended antifreeze and anti-corrosion coolant, and regularly check the pH value (recommended 6.5~8.0).

2. Maintain Water Pumps and Piping

Check the water pump's operating status monthly, listen for any abnormal noises, and observe whether the return water flow is sufficient.

Clean the cooling pipes quarterly to remove scale deposits and prevent power devices such as IGBTs and SCRs from burning out due to poor heat dissipation.

3. Regularly Replace Wear Parts

Inspect the cooling system seals and water pipe joints every 6 months. Replace them immediately if aging or micro-cracks are found to prevent leaks during operation.
