What safety measures are there when welding pipelines?

Jun 23, 2025

1. Personnel qualifications
Welding and cutting work must be performed by employees holding work permits.
2. Personal protection
Welders must wear special work clothes, insulated shoes, leather gloves, foot covers and other labor protection supplies that meet special protection requirements.
Ensure that necessary personal protective equipment is equipped, such as protective glasses, masks, protective clothing, insulated shoes, etc.
3. Equipment inspection
Welding equipment must be equipped with independent power supply control devices and leakage protection devices, and the casing of the electric welder must be reliably grounded.
Check equipment, accessories and pipelines for leaks, and only use soap to test. During the test, there must be no open flames or smoking around. It is strictly forbidden to use fire to test for leaks.
Oxygen cylinders and acetylene cylinders should be properly stacked, and open flames, flames and smoking are not allowed around them. Electric welding wires or their live wires must not be allowed to pass over gas cylinders.
4. Working environment
The welding site should ensure sufficient lighting and good ventilation. It is prohibited to store flammable and explosive items, and fire-fighting equipment should be available.
When the wind speed exceeds level 6 and it is raining, welding and cutting in the open air are prohibited.
Safety belts must be fastened when working at heights, and the safety belts should be hung in a firm and reliable place above.
When working in a confined space, safety lights must be used to maintain good ventilation.
5. Welding operation
Before welding and cutting the pipeline, ensure that the pipeline has been isolated and ventilated, and check whether there is still flammable gas.
When welding, use sun panels to block to prevent damage to the surrounding and pedestrian eyes.
During welding, the heat treatment power cord must be firmly fixed to prevent electric shock and burns.
A work shed that is protected from rain, snow and wind must be set up at the welding workplace, and the shed cloth must be firmly fixed.
6. Post-operation inspection
After the operation is completed, the welder must confirm that there is no fire left before leaving the work site.
Check whether the welding part has cracks, deformation or scorching.
