Which welding parts need to be checked after welding?

Jun 25, 2025

1. Appearance inspection
Weld surface: Check whether there are cracks, pores, slag inclusions, undercuts, incomplete fusion and other defects on the weld surface.
Weld size: Check whether the width, height and length of the weld meet the design requirements.
Weld shape: Check whether the shape of the weld is uniform and smooth, without obvious unevenness.
Weld color: Check whether the color of the weld is uniform, without abnormal discoloration or burning.
2. Internal inspection of the weld
Non-destructive testing: Use non-destructive testing technology (such as X-ray testing, ultrasonic testing, magnetic particle testing, penetration testing, etc.) to check whether there are incomplete fusion, incomplete penetration, cracks, pores, slag inclusions and other defects inside the weld.
Ultrasonic testing: Suitable for detecting cracks, incomplete fusion and other defects inside the weld.
X-ray testing: Suitable for detecting pores, slag inclusions, incomplete penetration and other defects inside the weld.
Magnetic particle testing: Suitable for detecting cracks, incomplete fusion and other defects on the surface and near the surface of the weld.
Penetrant testing: suitable for detecting defects such as cracks and pores on the weld surface.
3. Weld strength inspection
Tensile test: Check whether the tensile strength of the weld meets the design requirements through tensile test.
Bending test: Check whether the plasticity of the weld meets the design requirements through bending test.
Hardness test: Check whether the hardness of the weld meets the design requirements through hardness test.
4. Weld size inspection
Weld width: Use a weld ruler or caliper to measure the width of the weld to ensure that it is within the design range.
Weld height: Use a weld ruler or caliper to measure the weld excess height to ensure that it is within the design range.
Weld length: Use a steel ruler to measure the length of the weld to ensure that it meets the design requirements.
5. Weld position inspection
Weld position: Check whether the position of the weld meets the design requirements and ensure that the weld is in the correct position.
Weld centering: Check whether the weld is centered and ensure that the materials on both sides of the weld are symmetrical.
6. Weld protection layer inspection
Protective layer thickness: Check whether the thickness of the weld protection layer meets the design requirements.
Protective layer integrity: Check whether the protective layer is complete and not damaged or detached.
7. Weld cleanliness inspection
Weld cleanliness: Check whether there is residual welding slag, spatter or other impurities on the weld surface.
Weld grinding: Check whether the weld has been polished and whether the surface is smooth.
8. Weld cooling inspection
Cooling uniformity: Check whether the weld is cooled evenly and there is no local overheating or overcooling.
Cooling time: Check whether the weld cooling time meets the requirements to avoid subsequent operations too early.
