How to check the cooling system of a socket welding machine?

Dec 19, 2025

1. Water quality is fundamental. Use a multimeter set to the 2MW resistance range to test the cooling water. Insert the two probes into the water with a 1cm gap between them. The resistance value should be greater than 250kW; otherwise, replace the water immediately. It is recommended to check weekly, and more frequently during frequent use.

2. Water flow must be unobstructed. Check the cooling water pipes, cooler, and water pump to ensure there are no blockages or leaks, and that the water flow is smooth. Clean the pipes regularly to prevent scale buildup from affecting heat dissipation.

3. Water pressure and sealing. Use a dedicated testing instrument to pressurize the system to 150-160kPa to check for leaks. Be careful not to exceed the pressure limit to avoid damaging components. Also, confirm that the cooling system is well-sealed and leak-free.

4. Temperature monitoring. Ensure the cooling water temperature is stable to avoid overheating, which can lead to decreased welding quality or equipment damage. Check that the cooling fan is operating normally and that the heat sink is clean.

5. Safety precautions. Check that the interlocking circuits for over-temperature alarms, flow switches, and liquid level protection are functioning properly. Ensure that safety devices such as emergency stop buttons and protective covers are intact and usable.
