What are the solutions to the failure of the welding machine?

Oct 25, 2024

1. Heating system failure
1. The heating plate does not heat
Cause of failure
Power supply problem: The welding machine may not be connected to the power supply, the power cord may be damaged, or the power circuit inside the welding machine may fail, such as the fuse is blown, the transformer is damaged, etc.
Problem with the heating plate itself: The heating wire inside the heating plate is broken, or the connection line between the heating plate and the power supply is broken.
Control system failure: The control system may not send a heating instruction to the heating plate, such as a control chip failure or a temperature sensor failure, which causes the control system to misjudge and not start heating.
Solution
First check the power connection, make sure that the welding machine plug is tightly plugged into the socket, and check whether the power cord is damaged. If the power cord is damaged, replace the power cord.
Use a multimeter to check whether the fuse inside the welding machine is blown. If it is, replace the fuse of the same specification. Check whether the transformer has input and output voltages. If not, the transformer may need to be replaced.
For the heating wire inside the heating plate, you can use a multimeter to measure its resistance. If the resistance is infinite, it means that the heating wire is broken and the heating plate needs to be replaced. Check the connection line between the heating plate and the power supply and repair the breakpoint.
If the control system is suspected to be faulty, contact the technical support personnel or professional maintenance personnel of the welding machine manufacturer for inspection and repair. It may be necessary to replace components such as the control chip or temperature sensor.
2. Unstable heating temperature
Cause of failure
Temperature sensor failure: The temperature sensor is inaccurate, which may cause the control system to be unable to accurately control the temperature of the heating plate.
Unstable heating plate power: The heating wire inside the heating plate may have a local short circuit or poor contact, causing the heating power to fluctuate.
Control system problem: The PID (proportional-integral-differential) control parameters of the control system are improperly set, or the electronic components (such as capacitors, resistors, etc.) in the control system are faulty, affecting the stable control of the heating plate temperature.
Solution
Use a standard thermometer to calibrate the temperature sensor. If the temperature sensor has a large deviation, the temperature sensor should be replaced.
Check the heating wire inside the heating plate to see if there are signs of local burning or poor contact. If so, repair or replace the heating plate.
For the PID parameters of the control system, you can refer to the operation manual of the welding machine for readjustment. If you suspect that the electronic components in the control system are faulty, use a multimeter or other tool to detect and replace the damaged components.
2. Fixture system failure
1. The fixture cannot clamp the pipe or pipe fittings
Cause of failure
Damage to the fixture components: The clamping mechanism of the fixture, such as the screw, nut, clamping block, etc., may be worn, deformed or damaged, resulting in the inability to apply sufficient clamping force.
Power source problem (if it is an electric or hydraulic fixture): The electric fixture may have a motor failure and cannot provide sufficient torque; the hydraulic fixture may have a hydraulic pump failure, a hydraulic cylinder leak, or a blocked oil pipe, etc., which affects the generation of clamping force.
Solution
Check the clamping components of the fixture. For worn or damaged components, such as severe wear of the clamping block, the clamping block can be replaced; if the screw or nut is damaged, replace the corresponding component.
For motor failure of the electric fixture, check the power supply of the motor and whether the motor winding is short-circuited or open-circuited. If the motor is damaged, replace the motor. For hydraulic fixtures, check whether the hydraulic pump is working properly, whether the hydraulic cylinder is leaking, and whether the oil pipe is blocked. If the hydraulic pump fails, repair or replace the hydraulic pump; if the hydraulic cylinder leaks, repair or replace the hydraulic cylinder; if the oil pipe is blocked, clean or replace the oil pipe.
2. The fixture does not accurately position the pipe or pipe fitting
Cause of failure
The positioning device is damaged: the positioning pins, guide grooves and other positioning devices on the fixture may be worn, deformed or loose, resulting in the inability to accurately align the pipe or pipe fitting.
Failure of the fixture adjustment mechanism: The horizontal and vertical adjustment devices used to adjust the axis of the pipe or pipe fitting may fail, such as loose adjustment screws, wear of sliders, etc., affecting the positioning accuracy.
Solution
Check the wear of the positioning device. If the positioning pin is worn, the positioning pin can be replaced; if the guide groove is deformed, repair or replace the fixture parts.
For the fixture adjustment mechanism, tighten the loose adjustment screws and replace the worn sliders and other parts to ensure that the adjustment mechanism can work normally and accurately adjust the position of the pipe or pipe fitting.
3. Milling system failure (if any)
1. The milling cutter does not rotate
Cause of failure
Motor failure: The motor of the milling system may fail, such as short circuit, open circuit of the motor winding, damage to the motor bearing, etc., causing the motor to fail to operate normally.
Power supply or circuit problem: The power supply line of the milling cutter motor is open circuit, or the control circuit between the welding machine control system and the motor fails, and the start signal cannot be sent to the motor.
Solution
Use a multimeter to check the resistance of the motor winding. If the resistance is abnormal (infinite or too small), it means that the motor winding is damaged and the motor needs to be replaced. Check the motor bearings. If the bearings are severely worn or stuck, the bearings should also be replaced.
Check the power supply line of the motor and repair the breakpoints. For control circuit failures, check whether the relays, contactors and other components in the circuit are working properly, and repair or replace them according to the situation.
2. Poor milling quality (such as uneven milling surface)
Cause of failure
Milling cutter wear: The blade of the milling cutter is worn, resulting in uneven milling.
Improper milling depth control: Failure of the milling depth control mechanism may cause the milling depth to be too deep or too shallow, affecting the milling quality.
The pipe or pipe fitting is not firmly fixed: If the fixture does not firmly fix the pipe or pipe fitting, the pipe or pipe fitting may shake during the milling process, resulting in an uneven milling surface.
Solution
Check the wear of the milling cutter. If the milling cutter is severely worn, replace the milling cutter.
Check the milling depth control mechanism to see if there are any parts damaged or improperly adjusted, and repair or readjust them.
Check the fixture to fix the pipe or pipe fitting to ensure that the pipe or pipe fitting does not shake during the milling process. If there is a problem with the fixture, follow the solution to the previous fixture system failure.
4. Pressure system failure
1. Insufficient or no pressure
Cause of failure
Hydraulic system problem (if it is hydraulic pressure): The hydraulic pump fails and cannot provide enough pressure, the hydraulic cylinder leaks, or the hydraulic valve (such as pressure regulating valve, directional valve, etc.) fails, resulting in the hydraulic oil being unable to transmit pressure normally.
Failure of mechanical pressure components (if mechanical pressure): such as thread wear between the screw and the nut, resulting in failure to transmit pressure normally; or the connection between the pressure handwheel and the screw is loose, and the rotational motion cannot be converted into linear pressure.
Solution
For hydraulic pressure systems, check the working condition of the hydraulic pump, such as checking the inlet and outlet pressure of the pump, whether the internal components of the pump are damaged, etc., and repair or replace the hydraulic pump. Check whether the hydraulic cylinder has leakage, repair the leakage point or replace the hydraulic cylinder. Check the working condition of the hydraulic valve, clean or replace the faulty hydraulic valve.
For mechanical pressure systems, check the thread wear of the screw and the nut. If the wear is severe, replace the screw or nut. Check the connection between the pressure handwheel and the screw, and tighten the loose connection parts.
2. Unstable pressure
Cause of failure
Fluctuation of the hydraulic system (if hydraulic pressure): There is air in the hydraulic oil, or the flow of the hydraulic pump is unstable, resulting in pressure fluctuations.
Uneven mechanical pressure (if mechanical pressure): If the screw rotates unevenly during the pressure process, it may be due to unstable operation of the handwheel or jamming between the screw and the nut.
Solution
For hydraulic pressure system, exhaust the hydraulic system to remove the air in the hydraulic oil. Check the flow stability of the hydraulic pump, such as whether the oil inlet of the pump is blocked, whether the internal parts of the pump are worn, etc., and repair or replace the faulty parts.
For mechanical pressure system, operate the pressure handwheel smoothly and check whether there is a jam between the screw and the nut. If so, clean or replace the worn parts.
V. Control system failure
1. The operation panel has no display or abnormal display
Cause of failure
Display screen failure: The display screen of the operation panel may be damaged, such as LCD screen cracking, backlight failure, etc.
Power supply problem: The power supply circuit of the operation panel fails, which may be caused by the fuse on the circuit board, the voltage regulator chip failure, etc., resulting in the display screen unable to power normally.
Control chip or circuit failure: The control chip fails, or the circuit related to the display screen (such as data transmission line, signal amplification circuit, etc.) has problems, affecting the normal display of the display screen.
Solution
Check whether the display screen has obvious signs of damage. If the display screen is cracked or irreparably damaged, replace the display screen.
Check whether the fuse of the power supply circuit of the operation panel is blown. If it is blown, replace the fuse of the same specification. Use a multimeter to check the input and output voltage of the voltage regulator chip. If the voltage is abnormal, the voltage regulator chip may need to be replaced.
If the control chip or related circuit is suspected to be faulty, contact professional maintenance personnel for inspection and repair. It may be necessary to use professional testing equipment for troubleshooting and repair.
2. The welding parameters cannot be set or are not effective after setting
Cause of failure
Operation panel key failure: The keys on the operation panel may be damaged, such as the micro switch under the key is malfunctioning, resulting in the inability to enter the welding parameters normally.
Control system program failure: The program in the control system may have an error, resulting in the inability to correctly identify or process the set welding parameters.
Data storage problem: The storage chip used by the welding machine to store welding parameters may fail, resulting in the inability to save or call the set parameters.
Solution
Check the keys of the operation panel and use a multimeter to check whether the micro switch under the key is working properly. If the micro switch is damaged, replace the micro switch.
If the control system program is suspected to be faulty, you can try to reset the welding machine (follow the instructions in the operation manual) to restore the default settings. If the problem persists, contact the manufacturer's technical support staff for program updates or repairs.
For data storage chip failures, the storage chip needs to be replaced and the welding parameters reset. This operation may require professional maintenance personnel using specialized equipment.
