I. Consequences of Insufficient Pressure
1. Increased Contact Resistance: Insufficient pressure reduces the contact area between the workpiece and the electrode, increasing contact resistance and causing localized overheating. This can easily lead to electrode burnout or workpiece surface oxidation.
2. Insufficient Plastic Deformation: Insufficient pressure during the upsetting stage prevents the full extrusion of impurities and molten metal from the joint, resulting in reduced joint strength, weak bonding, and compromised welding reliability.
3. Increased Spatter: Insufficient pressure during heating can cause metal spatter, increasing operational risks and creating porosity defects around the weld.
II. Consequences of Excessive Pressure
1. Excessive Grain Deformation: Excessive upsetting pressure can cause severe bending of the material's crystal lattice, reducing the joint's impact toughness and fatigue life, thus weakening welding performance.
2. Risk of Mechanical Damage: Long-term operation under overpressure will increase the load on the hydraulic system, potentially leading to wear of the hydraulic cylinder and seals, or even pipe rupture, shortening equipment lifespan.
3. Workpiece Deformation or Damage: Excessive clamping or upsetting pressure can directly damage the workpiece surface, especially affecting thin-walled or precision parts.
III. Systemic Impacts
1. Hydraulic System Abnormalities: Pressure deviations from the set value may indicate malfunctions in the hydraulic pump, valves, or sensors. Failure to address these issues promptly can lead to system pressure fluctuations and control failures.
2. Safety Hazards: Uncontrolled pressure can cause sudden abnormal equipment operation, posing a risk of personal injury, especially during high-load operations.
To ensure welding quality and equipment safety, hydraulic pressure should be adjusted strictly according to process specifications, and the sensitivity of the pressure mechanism, the firmness of the clamps, and the sealing condition of the hydraulic system should be checked regularly.
