How to quickly troubleshoot hydraulic system faults in PE welding machines

Jun 08, 2026

Step 1: Troubleshoot the easiest external problems to resolve (1-minute troubleshooting)
No matter what the fault is, the first step is to check these points; 80% of minor problems can be solved directly:

1. Check the oil level: Open the oil tank and check if the hydraulic oil level is above the minimum mark. Insufficient oil will directly cause the cylinder to not move and the pressure to not rise. Adding oil will solve the problem.

2. Check the valve status: Confirm that the pressure relief valve is completely closed. If the pressure relief valve is not closed, the oil circuit cannot build pressure. Closing it will restore normal operation.

3. Check the pressure regulating valve: Check if the pressure regulating valve is too loose. Turn the pressure regulating valve clockwise to adjust the pressure to the required range of the equipment (normally 0.5-1.5MPa).

4. Check the power supply: Confirm that the power cord and plug of the hydraulic motor are firmly connected and not loose. For three-phase electrical equipment, check if the phase sequence is reversed.

Step Two: Precise Fault Location Based on Symptoms (3-Minute Location)

Based on the fault symptoms, directly identify the specific problem area:

✅ Fault 1: Oil Pump Motor Completely Inoperable

No sound from the motor after power-on: 90% likely due to a damaged microswitch or a loose power cord. Replacing the microswitch or rewiring will resolve the issue.

Motor hums but doesn't rotate after power-on: First, check the oil level. If the oil level is normal, the starting capacitor is faulty or the oil pump is stuck due to impurities. Replacing the capacitor and cleaning the impurities will fix the problem.

✅ Fault 2: Oil Pump Rotates, but Cylinder Doesn't Move

After ruling out oil level and valve issues in Step One:

Check the quick connector: Is it clogged or loose? Unplug and replug to clear the connection. If severely clogged, clean the filter screen.

Check the oil filter: Remove the filter element to check for plastic debris blockage. If clogged, clean or replace the filter element. Once the oil passage is clear, the cylinder will move.

✅ Fault 3: Unstable Pressure/Frequent Pressure Drop
First, check for obvious external oil leaks: Locate the leak point; if the joint is leaking, replace the gasket; if the oil pipe is leaking, replace the pipe directly.

If there are no external leaks, the problem is likely due to impurities stuck in the relief valve: Disassemble the relief valve, clean the impurities from the valve core, and reassemble it to stabilize the pressure.

✅ Fault 4: Cylinder Movement Stuttering/Crawling and Vibration
Directly open the oil circuit bleed bolt to release any air mixed in with the hydraulic oil. After bleeding, the movement should return to smoothness. If vibration persists after bleeding, it indicates internal leakage due to aging of the cylinder seals; replace the seals.

Step 3: Verify the Troubleshooting Results (Confirm within 1 minute)
After troubleshooting and adjustments, restart the machine and test its operation. If the fault disappears, the problem is solved; if the fault persists, disassemble and inspect core components such as the oil pump and cylinder.
